SPECIAL INTEREST: BREAST LUMPS/BREAST CANCER

Dr. Ballem is the only surgeon is the state of New Jersey to offer patient's minimally invasive breast biopsy using SiteSelect, a procedure that spares all of the normal tissue and removes only the lesion.

SITESELECT BREAST BIOPSY (More Info):

  • Is an outpatient procedure done under local anesthesia
  • Leaves an acceptable cosmetic result
  • Only a small amount of tissue is removed
  • Is done stereotactically, it is very accurate

VASCULAR SURGERY

Insertion and removal of catheters

LIGATION AND STRIPPING OF VARICOSE VEINS

Dr. Ballem has introduced a new endoscopic treatment for varicose veins using the TRIVEX system. With this technology, the varicosity's on the legs can be cleared with small 3mm incisions that can be closed with seri strips. The demonstrated outcome is good cosmetic results and reduced operating time.

SENTINEL LYMPH NODE BIOPSY

Dr. Ballem is enrolled in a nation wide research protocol to find out the best way to treat breast cancer. A new procedure called "sentinel lymph node biopsy" is being offered. In the past, patients with breast cancer often had to have all the lymph nodes in the axilla removed to see if the cancer had spread to those nodes. In the future, this may not be necessary. Many researchers believe that one could biopsy the first lymph node in the axilla and leave the other ones alone. This would be a much easier opeartion for both patients and surgeons.
